The Center for Japanese Studies<\/strong> at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies<\/strong> (Romania), with the support of its collaborators from Akita University<\/strong>, Kanda University of International Studies<\/strong>, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies <\/strong>and University of Hyogo<\/strong>, is pleased to announce organizing the 12th international conference Japan: Pre-modern, Modern and Contemporary,<\/em><\/strong> on September 8-10<\/strong>, 2025 in Bucharest (Romania) and online (on Zoom).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research areas of the conference include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf             (intellectual) history<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25cf                visual and performing arts<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no participation fee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guidelines for submission<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.      The language of the conference is English, but papers may also be given in Japanese, on condition that the presenter provides detailed slides or handouts in English. *Please carefully proofread your abstract before submission. (\u767a\u8868\u8a00\u8a9e\uff1a\u82f1\u8a9e\u3001\u307e\u305f\u306f\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u3002\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u306e\u5834\u5408\u3001\u82f1\u8a9e\u306b\u3088\u308b\u8cc7\u6599\u306e\u914d\u5e03\u30fb\u30b9\u30e9\u30a4\u30c9\u306e\u63d0\u4f9b\u304c\u671b\u307e\u3057\u3044\u3002)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.      Individual presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes for discussion with the floor; proposals should be up to 300 words (\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u306b\u3088\u308b\u767a\u8868\u8981\u65e8\u306e\u5834\u5408\uff1a500\u5b57\u7a0b\u5ea6). Each proposal should also include the name, title, affiliation of the presenter, and the research area of the presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.      Panels should have at least three members (three presenters or two presenters and a discussant) and a maximum of four members (four presenters or three presenters and a discussant). Panel proposals should include the title of the panel and a general abstract of up to 300 words, plus a 250-word abstract for each paper (\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u306b\u3088\u308b\u8981\u65e8\u306e\u5834\u5408\uff1a\u30d1\u30cd\u30eb\u306e\u5168\u4f53\u8981\u65e8=500\u5b57\u7a0b\u5ea6\u3001\u5404\u81ea\u306e\u8981\u65e8=350\u5b57\u7a0b\u5ea6). The name, title, and affiliation of each member should also be included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.      Submission deadline is May 31,<\/u> 2025<\/u>. Selection results will be announced on June 14<\/u>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.      Priority will be given to on-site presentations, but proposals for online presentations (via Zoom) will also be considered. The submission guidelines and procedures for online presentations are the same as for regular presentations (see above). Please mention in your application that you will be presenting online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A selection of the papers presented at the conference will be published in Synergy<\/em>, the journal of the Department of Modern Languages and Business Communication at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Synergy<\/em> is indexed with the following international databases: EBSCO, ERIH PLUS, CEEOL, Open J Gate, Index Copernicus, OAJI.
